Prof. Dr. Eckhard Schröter is a political science and public administration specialist (after studying at the Free University of Berlin and the London School of Economics and Political Science) and has been Head of the Department of Public Administration with a focus on Politics and Society in Department I of the German Police University in Münster since 2018. From 2005 to 2017, he held the Chair of Public Administration, with a focus on Public Administration Modernization, at Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, where he also served as Academic Program Director of the Political Science and Public Administration degree programs (2013-2017) and as Head of the Department of Public Management & Governance (2006-2012). Previously, he taught and researched at the University of California, Berkeley (DAAD Professorship, 2000-2005) and at the Humboldt University of Berlin. His research focuses on public sector reforms in international comparison, administrative culture, metropolitan studies, and, in particular, the theory and practice of representative bureaucracy. Eckhard Schröter is the author or editor of 15 book publications and over 90 journal articles and book chapters. On the topic of diversity in the public service, he is co-editor (together with B. Guy Peters and Patrick von Maravic) of the edited volumes “Representative Bureaucracy in Action: Country Profiles Compared from the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia” (2013) and “The Politics of Representative Bureaucracy: Power, Legitimacy and Performance” (2015).
